Why do we celebrate Cinco de Mayo?
Cinco de Mayo has become a day to celebrate Mexican culture in the United States. Technically, it’s a celebration of the Mexican victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla, on May 5, 1862. It’s been said that Cinco de Mayo is celebrated much more in the U.S. than it is in Mexico.
Not to be confused with Mexican Independence Day, or Día de la Independencia, which was when the “cry of independence” (or, Cry of Dolores, El Grito de Dolores), happened on Sept. 16, 1810. This started a revolt against occupying Spaniards in Mexico.

Jose Cuervo Free $10 Tip it Forward
Among others, the restaurant and hospitality industries have suffered during the pandemic. This year, Jose Cuervo, known for making the tequila needed for those Cinco de Mayo margaritas, is paying tribute with a “Tip it Forward” promotion.
