Free Books with the Barnes & Noble Summer Reading Program
Looking for a fun, educational way to keep your child engaged this summer? The Barnes & Noble Summer Reading Program is back, and it’s the perfect blend of motivation and magic. With just a little reading and writing, your child can earn free books this summer.
What Is the Barnes & Noble Summer Reading Program?
The program is designed to encourage young readers to keep their minds active during the summer months. Kids simply read books of their choice, complete a short writing activity, and turn in their work to receive a FREE book from a special selection.
How It Works
Your child can read any 8 books they choose. They can be library books, books from a friend, or a book you purchased. Simple record and reflect in the official Barnes and Noble Reading Journal. They will just need to write a sentence or two about their favorite part of each book.
Once your reading journal is complete, bring it to any participating Barnes and Noble store between July 1st and August 31st, 2025. Then it’s time to choose a free book from the list that is featured on the back of the official reading journal.
Who Can Participate?
The program is open to children in grades 1–6, making it a great way to keep elementary-age kids reading over the summer break.
