Free National Parks Entrance Days 2023 (Complete List)
Our great nation, the United States of America, celebrates several momentous events throughout the year with free entrance to National Parks!
So come and experience the national parks in your area! In 2023, all National Park Service sites that typically charge an entrance fee will offer free admission. So, mark your calendar for these entrance fee-free dates.

- January 16: Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. In honor of the Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr., National Park Service sites will waive entrance fees for everyone on Monday, January 16, 2023, as the first fee free day of the year.
- April 22 National Park Week Entrance fees will be waived on April 22, 2023 to kick off National Park Week and we encourage everyone to enjoy their national parks.
- August 4: Anniversary of the Great American Outdoors Act. The Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA), passed in 2020, provides funding to improve infrastructure and expand recreation opportunities in national parks and other public lands. The legislation established the National Parks and Public Lands Legacy Restoration Fund and guaranteed permanent funding for the existing Land and Water Conservation Fund.
- September 23: National Public Lands Day. Established in 1994 and held annually on the fourth Saturday in September, National Public Lands Day is traditionally the nation’s largest single-day volunteer effort. It celebrates the connection between people and green space in their community, inspires environmental stewardship, and encourages use of open space for education, recreation, and health benefits. National Public Lands Day falls on September 23, 2023.
- November 11: Veterans Day. The National Park Service invites all visitors to remember our veterans by visiting any National Park Service site for free on Veterans Day (November 11). Find tips to recreate responsibly while you visit!
The entrance fee waiver for fee-free days does not cover amenities or user fees for activities such as camping, boat launches, transportation, or special tours.
