What Are Microplastics?
Microplastics are tiny pieces of plastic. They are so small you can’t always see them. Some come from big plastic things that break apart. Others are made small on purpose.
Where do you Find Microplastics?
They are in lots of everyday stuff, like in face wash or toothpaste. Clothes, such as fleece or polyester can shed them in the wash. They can also be in food wrappers, tea bags, and even in our drinking water. We might eat or breathe them without knowing. Scientists are studying how they might affect our health.
What’s Bad About Microplastics?
Scientists are still learning how microplastics affect teeth, but here’s what they know so far:
Microplastics can carry harmful chemicals and bacteria. If they build up in your mouth, they might stick to teeth or gums. This could lead to more plaque, inflammation, or even damage to tooth enamel over time.
Researchers don’t know everything yet, but it’s possible that long-term contact with microplastics isn’t good for your teeth—or your body. More research is needed to know for sure.
