About Fleur de Lis
Featuring the Official State Symbol of Louisian, the Fleur de Lis. Originating in 1682, the area was discovered by French explorer, Sieur de la Salle, who first claimed the Mississippi Valley for King Louis XVI. Louisiana was named after the French king, and the first flag claiming the area had fleur-de-lis symbol on it. The NFL team, Louisiana Saints, has this symbol on their team uniform and helmet. It means “lily flower” and is pronounced “Flurr dee Lease”.
