My husband is diabetic and bought his blood glucose meter at Walmart. By buying it there, rather than at the pharmacy, he saved a ton of money on the meter and on future supplies such as lancets and test strips! He got this hot money-saving tip from his diabetic counselor RN.
After having the meter for a while, he began to suspect it wasn’t giving accurate readings. So, he called his RN and asked her what to do. She suggested going to Walmart Pharmacy and asking them for something called control solution. Basically, what control solution does is provide a sample with a known amount of glucose, so you can test it. Then, when you test that sample of control solution, it should give read-out results within a specified range. For example, if the bottle says the control solution should read 150-165 and your meter reads 200, then you know something is wrong. At that point, they recommend that you call them and they’ll assist.
If you need ReliOn glucose meter control solution, then you can order it for free directly from the manufacturer. They will mail it to you free within 3 business days. Control solution lasts up to 3 months, and can be ordered every 10 weeks.
You can also order a logbook to be shipped free once every 3 months, or you can download it instantly on their website!
