RECALL: 80,000 Lbs Kirkland Costco Butter

FDA recall alert for Kirkland butter products.

RECALL: 80,000 Lbs Kirkland Costco Butter

Butter sold at Costco is being recalled because producers failed to include on its labels that it contained milk. The labels did, however, state that it contains cream. Affected butter, sold under Kirkland brand, came with “best by” dates between February 22, 2025, and March 29, 2025.

What is a Recall?

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) in the United States are the departments responsible for investigating potential problems with food safety. Of course, from their investigations, they may issue warnings to the public. In other words, a Recall by the FDA or CDC means that the product in question is not safe for the specified reason. Additionally, guidelines and instructions are given for each recall, based on the specific threat at hand. For example, they may warn consumers that they should not consume the product. Or, they may suggest that the company responsible is willing to refund the purchase price.

Why is There a Recall?

Word on the street is that Costco has recalled 79,200 pounds of butter for failing to note it contained milk. The FDA classified this recall as Class II, indicating potential temporary health risks. In other words, if you’re allergic to milk and did not realize that butter is made with milk, you wouldn’t know it from the ingredient list on this faulty butter.

The affected product was produced by Continental Dairy Facilities Southwest and distributed in Texas.

Which Product(s) are Included in this Recall?

The affected products include 1,300 cases of Kirkland Signature Unsalted Sweet Cream Butter and 900 cases of Kirkland Signature Salted Sweet Cream Butter, which were recalled because they forgot to include the allergen warnings. However, cream was listed on the label.

What Should You Do?

Definitely, panic. Just kidding!

This seems like a very low priority in the grand scheme of things, but of course if you are allergic to milk do not consume dairy butter.
